Gas meter disconnection

Safely disconnect gas meters on a temporary or permanent basis

If you have a gas meter that you no longer need in your property and would like to have it removed from the mains and the gas disconnected, you’ll need to call in a specialist to carry out the work on your behalf as it’s against the law to do so yourself.

Reasons for choosing to remove a gas meter

There are many reasons, but some of the more common reasons our customers come to us for a gas meter removal are:

In the case of a building demolition, it would be highly dangerous for the contractors, as well as the public and surrounding buildings if the gas was not safely disconnected from the mains supply. In this case, the gas should be disconnected right up to the host main in the public highway.

Once all identified supplies have been cut-off, our engineers will offer a disconnection certificate to approve the safety of completing the redevelopment. A plot showing the meter location and where the gas is to be cut off should be provided so that we can issue you with a quotation.

Gas meter relocation

Move and relocate gas meters within the property

If you need help moving a gas meter in your home, let Crown Energy provide you with a competitive, no-obligation quote. You can apply for your meter to be re-fitted and for it to be re-linked to the inner copper pipeline. This is required if the inner copper pipeline is within two meters of your electric or gas meter’s new location or position.

How easy is it to move a gas meter?

We do everything we can to ensure the process is as simple and straightforward as possible. Once you’ve agreed to our proposal, we’ll arrange a suitable day with you to make the necessary preparations, ready for your gas meter relocation work to begin.

If required, your current meter will be re-installed by our metering engineer. We will also restore all the excavations unless requested otherwise. It’s that simple!

How long will it take to move my gas meter?

Each job is unique and we work to minimise the time between preparation and the work beginning. The standard timescales from preparation to labour are usually six to twelve weeks.

Your account manager will contact you by telephone to organise a suitable date and time to begin work. When decided, we will then send you a preparation letter approving the days for the labour and some helpful advice. Should you require more information, your account manager will be able to help.

The actual description of our works can differ depending on the individual project’s difficulty. For example, the distance the gas meter is moving, or where access is restricted. Reinstatement is typically completed within five working days of our team finishing work on your electricity or gas facility.

Gas submeter installation

If you need help with installing a gas submeter within domestic premises, we can help with our wide range of gas and electricity services on hand to customers throughout the UK.

Why install a gas submeter?

There are a range of reasons why domestic customers, landlords and businesses come to us to help them with the installation of submeters.

If you’re a landlord or property manager, having submeters installed in a property can be particularly beneficial if you plan to turn properties into individual bedsits or flats which falls under the term – House in Multiple Occupation (HMO).

By providing a meter in each individual living area, this ensures that the tenants only pay for the energy they use – rather than splitting the cost of the energy use from the landlord’s main meter.

What is a gas submeter?

A gas submeter allows the tracking of gas consumption for multiple occupants within multiple units of a domestic and commercial property. This is an ideal solution for landlords and business centres to accurately measure and charge for any individual amounts of gas consumption. Gas submeters can also be utilised to measure gas consumption across different areas of a property, although a master meter can still be utilised for billing and costs.

How is a gas submeter connected?

A gas submeter is installed on the gas line that is fed into an individual area of a property (domestic or commercial), allowing the usage to be measured individually for any area of a commercial property or a flat within a large housing.

What Our Customers Say

Had to get a quote to get a gas line connection to the house. Lewis was the point of contact and we could not get anyone more professional, kind and swift. He immediately had the answers to all our queries and broke everything down for us which made it very to understand and reassuring. Would highly recommend this company to anyone.

- Farhan Abubacar

I have used Crown energy over the past 8 years on multiple projects. I have found them to be very easy to work with, they are both professional & knowledgeable. The most recent application was for services for a new build block of 34 apartments. Michelle Kelly was the lady I have been dealing with on my most recent application, she was very helpful, enthusiastic, professional, she even took the time to go back to the contractors with my many questions & differing requirements.

- Steve Lewis, Hall Park Construction

Good old fashioned customer service. Lily, my first contact was polite, very communicative and knowledgeable about the service they offered she was a delight to talk to. Tegan, contract person was efficient and so far has kept me up to date with all I need to know. I would recommend the company to others on their customer service alone.
