Clearing Up Confusion Around Utility Quotes

We know the quotation process can sometimes feel unclear, which is why we’ve created this guide to set out exactly what to expect. By explaining the key steps, timelines and common questions, our aim is to make the process as transparent and straightforward as possible, so you can move forward with confidence.

How long does it take to receive a quote?

Every site is different, so timescales can vary depending on complexity. As a guideline:

  • Standard sites: 2-4 weeks
  • Complex sites: 4-8 weeks

We’ll always keep you updated if your project requires additional time.

What’s included in your quote?

Each quotation is bespoke, based on your site and the work required. Typical services can include:

  • Site preparation (site visits, disconnections, diversions, temporary supplies)
  • New utility connections and alterations
  • Service upgrades
  • Gas, electricity or water meter installations

Once your quote has been prepared, your dedicated account manager will contact you directly to explain it in detail and answer any questions. We prefer to do this over the phone so you get clear, immediate answers without long email chains.

How long is your quote valid?

All quotes are valid for 30 days.

Because we work with external contractors and network operators, we can’t guarantee the same price after that period. If your quote expires, you’ll need to resubmit your application, and there may be price increases.

To help avoid this, we’ll send you SMS reminders 7 days and 3 days before your quote is due to expire. Acting quickly ensures you secure the best value.

Why are water quotes different?

Unlike gas or electricity, most water boards charge an application fee before a quotation can be issued. Key points to note:

  • Fees vary depending on the regional water board
  • They are non-refundable and do not count towards the final connection cost
  • If your quote expires, you’ll need to pay the fee again for a new one

Our team can check whether your region requires this fee when you apply.

Final things to remember

  • Every site and network has different requirements, so timescales and costs will vary.
  • Paying within the 30-day validity period helps avoid delays and extra costs.
  • Your dedicated account manager will keep you informed from application through to completion.
