Multi-Utility Disconnection

If a property is being demolished, it’s likely that a multi-utility disconnection is required to ensure the safety of everyone around. At Crown Energy, we take the responsibility of the disconnection process, from identifying and contacting the energy providers and starting the process of having the supply disconnected and the relevant metering equipment removed.

What’s involved in utility disconnections?

Before performing a disconnection, we will need the following information:

• Full site address
• MPAN or MPRN numbers (these can be found on the bill of the utility concerned)
• Plan of the site that clearly shows the building that requires a disconnection
• Contact details of the demolition provider

If the gas, water or electricity is shared with another property, we will need to perform a site investigation to determine what work will need to be undertaken and how long it will take.

In many cases, the metering equipment is owned by the energy provider, so they may wish to remove the meters themselves so it can be used again on another property.

All gas meters must be removed first, so when the disconnection is complete, the contractor carrying out the works can fully purge out any gas that may be left inside the pipe works that are still underground. We will liaise with the providers and offer dates for when they are able to remove the equipment.

Completed Utility Disconnection

Once the work has been completed, we will provide a disconnection/termination certificate that has been authorised by the team that carried out the work. If any excavations have taken place, they will be filled and compacted on the property. If they have taken place on the public boundary, they can be completed several days later, as this will not hinder the demolition process.

Temporary Disconnections

If there is a requirement for utilities after the demolition has been completed, Crown Energy can disconnect gas, electric and water for a set period of time (up to 12 months). Then, if a new structure is set to replace the existing one, we can reconnect each utility as and when it’s required.

Temporary disconnection of all three utility services (gas, water and electric) can save time and money when it’s time to reconnect. This will all depend on the original disconnected material. Some old materials cannot be reconnected to due to age or not compliant anymore.
